FLOOD HISTORY IN MALAYSIA

18 DECEMBER 2021, SELANGOR

Malaysia’s worst floods in decades after extremely heavy rain on December 17 and 18 have killed at least 10 people and forced 61,000 people to flee their homes. Selangor, Malaysia’s most developed state, was the hardest hit by the flooding.


13 MARCH 2023, JOHOR

In March 2023, the flood situation in Johor, Malaysia showed signs of improvement, with the number of evacuees dropping from 37,503 at 8 AM on March 13 to 36,086 at 8 AM on March 14. The last two temporary evacuation centers (PPS) in Batu Pahat closed on March 26, 2023, and the floods fully receded.


1 DECEMBER 2023, JOHOR

The death toll from floods in Malaysia has risen to six. A missing woman was found dead in her submerged car in Johor, one of the most affected states. Meanwhile, in a bid to throw a financial lifeline to flood-stricken victims, the Malaysian government has urged all banks to offer loan moratoriums. This is to help ease the burden of those displaced by flash floods in several states.
