Collaborative Regional Research Programme (CRRP)

The Collaborative Regional Research Programme (CRRP) aims to address the challenges posed by flood disasters exacerbated by climate change through a multifaceted approach. By leveraging timely predictions and fostering effective community-agency engagement, the project seeks to enhance community resilience. The primary objective is to develop a real-time flood modeling tool that not only mitigates flood risks but also suggests climate adaptation measures, ultimately bolstering community resilience.

Key components of the project include collaboration among multiple Asia-Pacific Network (APN) countries, a gender-balanced team with a focus on early career researchers, and the utilization of complementary skill sets. The project will establish a real-time modeling approach in Malaysia and Thailand, showcasing its efficacy in mitigating flood risks through two case studies. The project's flexibility and robustness lie in its approach to significantly reduce computational time through cloud computing and streamline capacity development for line agencies.

Through cross- and transdisciplinary research, the project aims to provide early warning systems to relevant agencies and affected communities, fostering scientific collaboration and dialogue among stakeholders to shape policies enhancing disaster resilience.

Activities encompass scientific research in real-time flood simulation, capacity development through mentorship of early career researchers, and community engagement via workshops and design-thinking principles. These efforts align with APN goals of research integration, capacity building, science-policy interactions, and community engagement.

Outputs include the development of cloud-based flood models, supervision of junior researchers and students, training of government agency personnel, development of participatory planning procedures, and enhancement of research output through mentorship and dissemination. Stakeholder communication will be prioritized through various channels including workshops, social media, and mainstream media coverage, ensuring accessibility of results to both stakeholders and the general public.

In summary, the CRRP seeks to mitigate flood risk and suggest climate change adaptation measures through collaborative research, capacity building, and stakeholder engagement, ultimately contributing to enhanced community resilience in the face of climate-related disasters.
